The aim of the course is, firstly, to familiarize students with the theoretical and methodological foundations of scientific research and, secondly, to explore the main methods of quantitative and qualitative research and data collection. In parallel, in order to provide practical training in research methodologies, examples of applications in various fields are presented, with particular emphasis on research models commonly used in the economic sciences.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
-Distinguish methodology from epistemology.
-Distinguish the scientific method from ordinary human inquiry, as well as probabilistic from deterministic reasoning.
-Demonstrate how the scientific method can address common errors in human inquiry, such as overgeneralization, inaccurate observation, selective observation, and illogical reasoning.
