The Student Advocacy Office is an independent office reporting to the Rector or the competent Vice-Rector. It was established by Decision No. 23/9/17.1.2019 of the Senate of Democritus University of Thrace (Government Gazette 98/B/24-01-2019) and continues to operate pursuant to Articles 461(2) and 130 of Law 4957/2022.
The mission of the Student Advocacy is to:
mediate between students — undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral candidates — and members of the teaching staff or the University’s administrative services,
safeguard legality within the framework of academic freedom,
address cases of maladministration, and
contribute to the smooth and proper functioning of the University.
The responsibilities of the Student Ombudsman and the mediation procedure are described in detail in the relevant Regulations, which form part of the Internal Regulations of Democritus University of Thrace.
By decision of the DUTH Senate, Professor Marika Giouni of the Department of Law has been appointed as the Student Ombudsman.
