To support the University’s educational and research activities, the Central Library of Democritus University of Thrace operates with its headquarters in Komotini with a branch in Alexandroupoli serving the School of Health Sciences, as well as library facilities in every city where DUTH is present, including Kavala. Through the Central Library’s online search service, students can locate available material, including books, journals, and other resources, and proceed with borrowing where applicable.
The DUTH Library provides access to a range of electronic databases, either through direct subscription agreements or through agreements concluded by the Hellenic Academic Libraries Link (HEAL-Link) with content providers. DUTH has also integrated the Turnitin plagiarism-detection software into its library services. Turnitin is available to members of the University community as an important research and educational tool. The use of Turnitin for checking theses and dissertations at all levels is mandatory, while it may also be used through eClass for checking coursework and assignments.
In addition, the DUTH Institutional Repository has been developed with co-funding from the European Union and the Greek State. It provides an infrastructure for collecting, organising, managing, preserving, and promoting the University’s intellectual output. Its material is organised into collections and currently includes so-called grey literature, namely undergraduate theses, postgraduate dissertations, and doctoral theses completed within DUTH departments, as well as journal and rare-book collections. Members of the student and academic community have access to the material made available through the repository.
