Erasmus+ is a programme that enables students to complete part of their studies or undertake a traineeship in another country.
The Erasmus+ programme offers opportunities to:
live abroad for a period of time and study at a foreign university or undertake a traineeship at a host organisation;
experience different cultures and ways of life;
improve your knowledge of a foreign language and make new friends;
develop greater independence and autonomy;
experience different approaches to your field of study;
add a European dimension to your studies, strengthen your CV, and enhance your future employability.
Through the Erasmus+ programme, you can:
Undertake your undergraduate thesis at a higher education institution abroad with which the Department has a bilateral agreement and have the ECTS credits earned abroad recognised by the Department.
Undertake an Erasmus+ traineeship, working in companies, organisations, institutes, research institutions, or other host organisations abroad, provided that you contact them and are accepted, thereby gaining valuable experience in the labour market.
For students who are unable to participate in long-term mobility, blended mobility is also available. This combines short-term physical mobility for studies or traineeships — with a minimum physical duration of five days — with a virtual component that facilitates collaborative online learning and teamwork.
Students participating in Erasmus+ mobility receive financial support through an Erasmus+ grant.

Professor Athanasios Mandilas has been appointed as the Department’s Erasmus+ Coordinator.
The Coordinator is responsible for matters relating to the Erasmus+ programme, both for study mobility and traineeship mobility, and submits relevant recommendations to the Department Assembly.
The Coordinator also assists students in planning their mobility, explains the applicable procedures, supports the academic recognition of ECTS credits, and provides guidance throughout all stages of the mobility process.

For the selection of undergraduate students, postgraduate students, and doctoral candidates wishing to participate in mobility for studies and/or thesis preparation, the Department has established evaluation criteria, as described in the Regulations of the Undergraduate Study Programme (Article 18) and/or the DUTH Erasmus+ Regulations.
The selection criteria are as follows:
Grade Point Average (GPA), as shown in the applicant’s academic transcript — weighting coefficient: 0.5.
Interview with the Erasmus+ Committee. The interview may also be attended by any members of the academic staff of the Department of Accounting and Finance who wish to participate — weighting coefficient: 0.2.
Certified knowledge of English — weighting coefficient: 0.2.
Certified knowledge of the language of the host country — weighting coefficient: 0.1.
Number of outstanding courses: 0.2 points are deducted from the final score for each outstanding course, after calculation of criteria 1–4.
Applications are not accepted from candidates whose Grade Point Average is below 7.0/10 or who have more than five outstanding courses.
Mobility applies to the following categories:
A) Third-year undergraduate students
Third-year undergraduate students who wish to undertake their undergraduate thesis, including thesis writing, during the 8th semester of their studies, may participate in a six-month mobility period during the spring semester of the fourth year, from 1 February 2026 to 31 July 2026, at one of the eligible European partner institutions.
Applications are not accepted from candidates whose average grade is below 7.0/10 or who have more than five outstanding courses.
B) First-year postgraduate students
First-year postgraduate students who wish to undertake their Master’s dissertation, including dissertation writing, may participate in a three-month mobility period during the winter semester of the respective academic year.
Students whose average grade in their postgraduate courses is below 7.0/10, or who have even one outstanding course, are not eligible to participate in the programme.
Furthermore, a Master’s dissertation undertaken within the framework of Erasmus+ must be an experimental research project involving laboratory work and may not be exclusively literature-based.
C) Doctoral candidates
Doctoral candidates who wish to undertake part of their doctoral research abroad, excluding the writing of the doctoral thesis, may also participate in Erasmus+ mobility.
The action provides students from all cycles of study — undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral candidates — as well as recent graduates of Democritus University of Thrace, with the opportunity to undertake a traineeship lasting 2 to 3 months. A period longer than three months is also eligible, but without financial support (zero grant). Traineeships may be carried out at host organisations such as companies, Non-Governmental Organisations, research centres, educational institutions, diplomatic missions, and other organisations located in countries participating in the Erasmus+ Programme, as well as in countries from Regions 13 and 14 (see the relevant attached table).
Recent graduates: The traineeship period for which they apply must be completed within one year from the date of graduation. A prerequisite for participation is that the selection of their application must have been completed during the final year of their studies, prior to graduation. Students must inform the host organisation that, during the mobility period, they will have graduate status.
Students are eligible to apply for participation in the programme provided that they:
are active registered students in a Department of DUTH as undergraduates, provided that they have not exceeded the N+2 or N+3 maximum study period, postgraduate students, or doctoral candidates;
possess the required level of language proficiency specified by the Host Organisation;
in the case of postgraduate students, submit together with their application a certificate issued by the Coordinating Committee of the Postgraduate Study
Programme in which they are enrolled, stating:
a) the title of the Postgraduate Study Programme,
b) confirmation that the programme to be undertaken by the applicant will form part of their postgraduate studies, with explicit reference to the ECTS credits to be obtained, and
c) confirmation that the period spent abroad will count towards the total duration of their studies;
in the case of doctoral candidates, submit together with their application a certificate issued by their three-member advisory committee stating:
a) the title or subject of the doctoral thesis,
b) confirmation that the programme to be undertaken abroad will form part of the doctoral research process, and
c) confirmation that the period spent abroad will count towards the total duration of their doctoral studies.
